People-Oriented Cities - China led the design of the Guangzhou BRT system, and initiated the Greenways program. They went on to design BRTs in Lanzhou, Yichang, and other Chinese cities. Today, they are working with Chinese cities to realize their Low-Carbon Cities initiatives.
For the last few years, People-Oriented Cities has been working with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund to implement Gold Standard Transit-Oriented Development projects in Ji'an, China and in other cities, such as Yangon, Myanmar, where China's development aid has focused.
In the coming years we will be working with select cities in Southern China to help them implement BRT, TOD, parking reform, congestion charging and other measures to reduce the carbon footprint of their cities.
We will also be coordinating with China's newly created International Development Cooperation Agency to help them improve the effectiveness of their programing in the transport and urban development areas in Southeast Asia and Africa. Contrary to the picture the Trump Administration painted of Chinese foreign assistance, China is already financing some great projects outside of China, like the Karachi BRT in coordination with the ADB, and its potential role could be transformative.
